Liposuction – Is it Safe?

LiposuctionObesity is an increasing problem in the U.S. as people get less exercise and eat unhealthy diets with excessive calorie counts. Beyond leading to other health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, obesity also puts a serious crimp in a person’s self-esteem.

Once an overweight or obese person chooses to make some lifestyle changes, such as regular exercising and eating a healthy diet, his or her body weight can come down dramatically, hopefully ending at their ideal body weight. But certain spots on the body, no matter how much a person exercises, stubbornly hold onto their fat. These are the thighs, hips, stomach (especially in men), buttocks, and upper arms. Liposuction is really the only solution to these fatty spots.

During liposuction, a tiny incision is made in an area with a problem fat pocket. A suction tube called a cannula is inserted into the incision. The vacuum is then turned on and the cannula is moved about in the target area, suctioning out the unwanted fat. This is repeated with other incisions until the fat pockets are removed. Patients are given a local anesthetic prior to the procedure to eliminate pain, but some bruising and soreness is inevitable. Still, the procedure is very safe.

At Diamond Medical Spa & Vein, our liposuction procedures will take up to two hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. You can return to work within a few days and get back to all of your normal activities within two weeks.
